Common Myths:
Packaging is not important.
In the skin care industry proper packaging is critical. This is because the packaging protects the effectiveness of the ingredients. Examples of unsafe packaging to look out for are wide-mouth jars, transparent containers and pumps that are not airless.
Chocolate cause acne.
The truth is that eating chocolate simply cannot cause acne. What can cause acne is hormones, bacteria, stress and allergic reactions.
Natural and organic products are always better.
Buyer beware! Not all natural and organic products are as safe as they claim! Natural vs. laboratory-created products should never sway you either way. Using large quantities of a product will yield better results.
Just as the saying goes, less truly is more. In most cases a pea-sized drop of a product will do the trick. In fact, excessive amounts of products can not only be wasteful but may also trigger skin issues.
Blackheads are caused by improperly cleansed skin.
Blackheads, otherwise known as comedones, are clogged pores. They contain dirt, oil and dead skin cells that need to be removed. While it’s tempting to scrub away at these don’t, that can actually cause your skin to become more irritated and inflamed. Instead, use an oil-based product to dissolve the grime clogging the pore and in no time you’ll see clearer, healthier skin.
Drying problematic or oily skin clears up acne.
Not true! In fact, the opposite is true. If your skin becomes dry and irritated your skin will sense this and produce more oil. So, if you’re skin is oily use drying products sparingly and lightly moisturize often. The goal to prevent oily skin from worsening is to keep it balanced.
Get a base tan to prevent burning before going on vacation.

All sun damage to skin occurs before 18 years of age.
While recent research suggests that approximately 50% of sun damage occurs before your 18th birthday, the sun continues to cause damage as you age. It is never too late to protect your skin from the sun. Make sure to always slather on the sunscreen when you plan to go outdoors, even on cloudy days.
Indoor tanning is safe.
The indoor tanning industry’s claims that tanning beds and booths do not cause cancer is simply untrue. UVA rays found in indoor tanning beds and booths actually may lead to deeper and more harmful skin damage. A painful sunburn is incredibly damaging to your skin, but so are the UVA rays that shine on your skin inside tanning beds.
Antioxidants reverse wrinkles.
While it is true that antioxidant are critical against the fight of free radical formation and in preventing skin damage they cannot erase wrinkles. Don’t let false claims sway you, the best way to avoid wrinkles is to protect and take good care of your skin now!
